Exciting time of growth and development as our ambitious charity continues to develop its service offer for those affected by sexual violence and abuse. We are seeking a skilled treasurer to join our dedicated team of volunteers.

Who are we?

We are a Charitable Incorporated Organisation serving those in Aylesbury Vale and Milton Keynes who have been affected by sexual assault and abuse recently or in the past. We aim to enable those affected by sexual assault to live fulfilling lives. We provide face to face counselling, group therapy, telephone and email support, information and guidance sessions, advocacy services, and an ISVA service (practical and emotional support through the criminal justice system).  We are members of Rape Crisis England and Wales, Survivors Trust, Male Survivors Partnership, and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

We are recruiting for a trustee with accounting and finance experience to serve as treasurer, responsible for overseeing the organisation’s continued income growth and ensuring compliance with Charity Commission requirements. Our organisation has ambitious plans to generate income from multiple sources, having successfully increased turnover in recent years by over 50%. With a growing portfolio of funding sources, comes increased financial monitoring requirements, with some ring-fenced funding. The board’s challenge over the next few years will be to ensure sustainable levels of funding for the new services being offered and in development so that survivors are provided the best and most appropriate support.

The current board is small and very hands-on, with relevant experience in bid-writing, data analysis, governance, counselling, PR and marketing. By joining the board you will share responsibility to influence the vision and strategic direction of the charity. As treasurer you will have responsibility for working with the CEO and finance officer to agree and monitor a sustainable annual budget. You will also work with CEO and designated accountant to oversee the preparation and submission of relevant Charity Commission reports.

The board meets on the third Wednesday of every other month although all our volunteers and trustees have ‘real lives’ so flexibility is accounted for. The organisation is supported by a range of volunteers who work with the board as a team to ensure the charity successfully achieves its aims and objectives. The trustees also run action groups in between the main trustee meetings to develop relevant themes when needed.

What are we looking for?

Our ideal trustee is keen to work as part of a team to develop the organisation. Our ideal trustee believes in empowering those affected by sexual abuse to lead fulfilling lives. Our ideal trustee will have accounting experience, preferably using online tools (e.g. Xero), will have experience setting and monitoring annual budgets and will be able to advise on financial policies and procedures. We do not require someone with previous experience as a charity trustee, we are happy to provide training, looking mostly for someone with relevant experience and a willingness to learn, grow and work with the organisation.

What difference will you make?

By working with the current board to advise and oversee financial growth, the organisation is able to ensure its services are sustainable, and that the growing demand for support from those who have experienced sexual abuse is met. Police statistics are showing an increase of sexual offences recorded, and many survivors of abuse endure psychological trauma for years before seeking support. The treasurer will play a key role, working alongside the CEO, to ensure the organisation is financially stable and able to continue to offer support to survivors, and can grow in a sustainable way to offer a more diverse range of services so no one is left without help.
